Institute (PLEI)
Mission:
PLEI develops leaders among student pharmacists and pharmacists
by conducting programs to improve leadership skills, to strengthen
our profession, and thereby advance the public health.
PLEI takes a special interest in supporting and advancing ΦΔΧ’s
mission of developing pharmacy’s future leaders.
Each year, PLEI provides substantial support to ΦΔΧ, by supporting
LDS, Grand Council, the Prescott Leadership Award, and the
Achievement Award Program

1987 – first Prescott Leadership Award presented to Walter Fitzgerald (Ω)
1989 – first Leader Development Seminar (LDS), during 57th Grand Council
(Monterey)
early 1990s – discussions about value of “a second bull’s-eye”
1995 – 60th Grand Council (Memphis) authorizes PLEI
1996 – Pharmacy Leadership & Education Institute first meet in March in Nashville.

1998 – Recognized by IRS as 501(c)(3) charitable foundation on Apr 2, with tax ID #

2000 – PLEI takes over responsibility for LDS program
2005 – Saroyan Leadership Challenge Fund created

Leader-Development. Seminars for leaders
5-day immersion programs (Leader-Development Seminar, LDS) for ΦΔΧ Brothers and
guests, in even-numbered summers
5-day Officer Training Courses (OTCs),
1-day seminars for young pharmacists (LD501, LD600)
Travel scholarships to LDS, GC/OTCs, etc.
Leader Recognition. At various levels in pharmacy:
Albert B. Prescott Pharmacy Leadership Award, awarded to exemplary pharmacist
< 10 years into career.
Award programs recognizing excellence within ΦΔΧ: Rand P. Hollenback, Norman H.
Franke, Desmet, other scholarships.
Other Activities.
Document history of ΦΔΧ and PLEI.
Provide leadership activities to aid the profession of pharmacy, public health, or
society as a whole.
Enable broadest exposure of self-development content to student pharmacists in
