After three months of his graduation he launched his eponymous label, and his designs currently retail in various major stores.
He sells under his label, 'Sabyasachi', since 1999. He has also designed for a few Bollywood films like Babul,Sanjay Leela
Bhansali's film, Black and Laaga Chunari Mein Daag.
He also designed costumes for the cast of Paa (2010), Raavan (2010) and Guzaarish (2010).
Sabyasachi Mukherjee is of the opinion that clothes should be an expansion of one’s intellect. His forever inspirations have been gypsies, deserts, prostitutes, antique textiles and cultural custom of Kolkata, his homeland.
He uses uncommon fabrics, and fuses the styles of patch-work with attractive accompaniments in a vivacious colored palette to bring in the mood of the medieval age. He explains his own collection as 'an International styling with an Indian soul'

After graduation sabyasachi launched his own label by the same name ‘Sabyasachi’ and currently has retails at New Delhi-carma and ogaan;Mumbai-Melange and ensemble,Kolkata-espee and Intrigue and Hyderabad- Origins and Oorja.

He was recognized at a global level by bagging the grand winner award at
Mercedes new Asia fashion week in Singapore 2003.
He is in collaboration with Sameera habitats for interior designing 200 residents, the collaboration was finalised on 4 th day of fashion weeks.
Sabyasachi and GAJA jewellers(retail brand of Shree
Ganesh Jewellery house, the top most jewellery company) made a successful debut in Guzaarish collection.

He pioneered the use of Indian Textiles in a modern context.
His unique contribution was the use of indegenious methods like bandhani, gota work, block printing, hand dyeing etc in construction of modern silhouettes.
Like a painter, Sabyasachi feasts on re-working textile by layering with textures and stains. His innovations are the contemporary treatments he gives to traditional fabrics.
Sabyasachi also designs accessories that comprises jewelry of West Bengal, Bangladesh, Gujrat and karnatka. It comprises our heritage accessoryliketaga,baju,matarmala,jalpadma,charanpad ma,chettinar, necklacs etc.

Sabyasachi won the Femina British Council
