PRAGATIs Lobby and Advocacy Initiatives have resulted in the
state of Uttarakhand is first in the country to pass the Landmark
bill titled “The Uttarakhand Panchayat Law (Amendment) Bill
2008” .
It brings 50% reservation in Panchayats for women.

PRAGATI made a Presentation before the Parliamentary Standing
Committee on Personal, Public Grievances, Law and Justice
(June, 2007) on the issue of sensitizing the members on “Nyaya
Panchayat”.

PRAGATI has developed the Uttarakhand State Module for the Rajiv
Gandhi Foundation and is currently developing a multi-mode
training for the elected representatives through distance
education.

Afghanistan and the Government of India signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

PRAGATI has been requested to depute its experts
to train the Local Self Governance representatives
of Afghanistan.
 Open Forum : annual Interface meeting organised for 1000
Elected Women Functionaries with represenation from other states
also.
LEGAL STATUS OF THE ORGANISATION
PRAGATI has emerged as an independent and autonomous All Women’s
Organization and is registered under Societies Registration Act 1860
and under the FCRA, which gives it the independence of accepting
Foreign Funds.

are looking for the vital support of organizations to take this mission
forward.
TRAINING - Trainings have also been imparted on issues
relating to gender, legal awareness, skill development (income
generation activities) leadership and communication.

PREPARATION OF IEC - Based upon the needs
of the community IEC material in the form of
books, flash cards etc. were prepared having
localized content. Also to ensure effectiveness
of the training program modules were
prepared.
PC TO PC - At the end of each training program prestamped and self-Addressed PCs- Post Cards were
distributed to the participants so that they can
approach the PRAGATI team for any assistance,
Clarification or information in future.


The project was implemented in two districts of Uttarakhand
state of India i.e. Dehradun and Haridwar district.

The project was being implemented in Chakrata, Vikasnagar
and Kalsi Blocks of Dehradun district and Roorkee, Laksar and
Bahadrabad Blocks of Haridwar district.

The trainings imparted under the project have substantially
raised the awareness of the Elected Women Representatives
(EWRs), Self Help Group members and other men and
women.


awareness, leadership etc, were the topics of discussion


High Court while interacting with the participants focused on
the active participation of women in the different fields of
health, nutrition and education. He shared that the women
should make themselves aware about the different schemes
being run for their development.
Women from Mori, Bageshwar, Jaunpur and Dehradun called for a symbolic AntiLiquor Rally creating a pressure on men to cut down on their drinking habits. Thus,
addressing the issue of alcoholism in the state.
Anganwadi centre in Khaskoti, Block Jaunpur, Dist.
Tehri was not running effectively as the woman
incharge stayed in a distant place. The SHG women
along with others took her to task as a result of which
she started commuting to the centre everyday. The
centre runs well now.
The women played a major role in improving the
sanitation condition of the village by getting toilets
constructed. Previously the money for such work was
not utilized, but now the women approached the
Pradhan and got them constructed wherever needed.
In village Sendul, Block Jaunpur, Dist. Tehri, the
unavailability of ration was making the living for people
very difficult. The women conducted a meeting and
decided to send a written declaration to the District
Magistrate.
This step was appreciated and acknowledged and the
concerned retailer of the ration shop was removed by
the D.M. As of now, proper ration is available on time in
the village

Panchayati Rule and Gender Awareness Training Institute
(PRAGATI) has implemented the project titled “Women
Empowerment Program Through Self-Help Groups”
 In Chhachhrauli, Bilaspur and Sadora blocks of district Yamuna
Nagar as part of Phase-I.
The project was implemented in 40 villages with special focus
on the Muslim minority women.
The success of Phase I led to the implementation of Phase II
which extended its geographical coverage to 12 new villages.
Phase III was carried out in 8 new villages.
The latest Phase IV covered 5 new villages. Hence, a grand
total of 40 villages have been covered under this project.

community women held in vikasnagar block.

project supported by Ministry of Minority Affairs.

Matak Majri,Daharmawala,Fatehpur,Jattowala
 The
different sessions of training included legal and
social issues related to women.
 Laws
such as Domestic Violence, Dowry, PCPNDT Act
were taught along with other social schemes.

Components of Leadership Development
were also initiated in minority women.
