READING PERCUSSION
I use to indicate percussive elements as X’s inside the tabs. As each song is notated differently, I
decide on an individual basis where I place the X’s and which percussive hits they are standing for.
In general, I try to place the X’s in relation to where they are played (hit) on the guitar. That means that
hits that are played on top of the guitar or at least above the sound hole are placed on the lower
strings (E, A and D string). Percussive hits that are played on the lower body of the guitar, so below
the sound hole, are notated on the higher strings (G, B and E string).

READING PERCUSSION
More important than percussive elements are the actual notes and chords that are played. Therefore,
it is not always possible to stick to the scheme I explained before.
Sometimes the bass notes that have to be played are important and thus I can’t indicate the
'percussive bass hits' that are played simultaneously on the lower strings. In cases like this I place
them on the higher strings, as it can be seen in the image below.
To give you some hints I inserted small explanations inside the tabs, indicating what the X’s are
standing for in the current riff or part.
