General Formatting
Page Setup
Margins: 1 inch on all sides.
Font: Times New Roman, 12-point.
Line spacing: Double-spaced.
Title Page
Title in bold, centered, and in title case (Title case= all words 4 or more letters have a capital)
Author names and institutional affiliation centered.
Running head (shortened title) on the top-left, flush left.
Headers and Page Numbers
Page number in the top-right corner of each page.
No running head for academic writing
In-text Citations
Author-Date Citations
(Author, Year) for a direct citation.
Author (Year) if the author's name is part of the sentence.
(Author, Year, Page) for a specific page or section—used only with direct quotations!
Multiple Authors
Two authors: (Author1 & Author2, Year).
Three or more authors: (Author1 et al., Year).
Author1 and Author2 (Year) if the authors’ names are part of the sentence.
Author1 et al. (Year) if the authors’ names are part of the sentence.
No Author
Use the first few words of the title in italics and the year, e.g., (Article Title, Year).
Reference Page
Heading
References centered and bold at the top of the page.
Alphabetical Order
List references alphabetically by the last name of the first author.
If one author has multiple works, cite the earliest first.
If one author has multiple works and the same year, add lower case letters after the year to
differentiate (e.g., Smith, 2023a; Smith, 2023b).

Journal Articles
Author, A. A. (Year). Title of article. Title of Journal, volume(issue), page range. DOI or URL if available.
Websites
Author, A. A. (Year). Title of webpage/document. Website Name. URL.
Newspaper Articles
Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of article. Newspaper Name, page range. URL if online.
Retrieval Date
Include the retrieval date for web sources that may change over time.
