Final Examination for Business Writing, July 2020
Sean Jiang, Ph. D.
Format:
Two writing Assignments, one on Meeting Notice and one Meeting Minutes; Openbook.
Scope:
Refer to the Function, Format and Content of Meeting Notice and Meeting Minutes, as
we learned in our course, in the official online video course, our in-class reading
materials, our assignment comments, and our PPT lectures.
Requirements: Two separate assignments in two Word documents. One page only for each of the two
assignments, single space, 1’ margins and 12’ font.
Time Period:
July 1st to July 10th , specific due date to be assigned.
Grading Guidelines:
Evaluation will be two parts. First, on the Format and Content of the Meeting
Notice and the Meeting Minutes. Format means the structure or the
organization. Content means the items/information contained. Secondly, on
proper language use (grammar, spelling, punctuation, usage.)
Assignment Instructions:
You work as an Executive Assistant to the President for a small marketing
company, called SinoMarketing, which manages membership programs for
other corporations. As a routine, there’s a Weekly BOD meeting, with the three
top managers in the company. They are Mr. Han, Director of Membership
Management, Mr. Bender, Director of Marketing, and Mr. Wei, President. At
this particular BOD meeting, each of them provided their respective updates.
Please see the insert below (from our Textbook) for details.
You have two tasks. First, with information from my introduction above, and
from the “insert” below, construct a Meeting Notice to this effect, which is to be
sent out prior to the meeting. Secondly, with the same information, write a
Meeting Minutes to publish after the meeting is concluded.
Please be careful, even though we’re using the same event, we need to remind
ourselves with the fact that a Meeting Notice is different from a Meeting
Minutes, with different Functions, Format and Content. Please also remember
you may need to supply extra information, as required by a formal Meeting
Notice and Meeting Minutes, respectively.
