Is a weaponless world realistic?
For millions of years humans have used violence as a source of protection, warfare,
hunting, self-defense, law enforcement, and criminal activity. There are even cave
paintings from Spain from 10,000 to 5,000 BC that show men fighting with bows;
which clearly shows that human beings have probably always killed each other. But
even if we have always used weapons to gain control over people or to simply
survive, can we continue on living in a weaponless world? It's kind of obvious to
know that that is not a reality that we will be achieving soon.
One main reason for this is the people who are in favor of gun rights; the most
common reason given for gun ownership is protection to ensure protection. Other
people use it mainly for hunting which in my opinion is terribly wrong, and of course
weapons used in war. The easiest country to buy a gun is Switzerland, it can be
purchased by anyone over 18 years of age without a permit, but everyone knows
famously that the United States has a penchant for gun ownership stems from its
deep belief in the Second Amendment of its constitution. They believe it is a Most
guns should be legal because they protect citizens against crime, strengthen
individual freedom, and reduce crime. In my opinion it creates more crime, because
having this kind of weapons in such easy access can go horribly wrong. This is one
of many main reasons for school shootings and a lot of acts of violence to certain
people.
There are still people who fight with each other and countries fighting against each
other. There are terrorists. “ The possibility of terrorist groups and other non-state
actors acquiring nuclear weapons will force the existing nuclear powers to retain
overwhelming nuclear capability. Therefore, there can never truly be a world without
nuclear weapons” was stated by an article of E-International Relations. Some
experts think that a world without nuclear weapons would be less stable and more
dangerous for all of us. For this reason I believe the world will never be weaponless
due to everyone having different views and uses with them.
Maybe getting rid of nuclear weapons may be a possibility, but not all weapons. The
president of the United States are now saying yes. It is stated that “ They
acknowledge that a nuclear-weapons-free world remains a vision, not immediately
attainable and perhaps not achievable within the lifetimes of most contemporary
policy makers. But they believe that the vision needs to be shared, in a vibrant,
powerful way,” but sadly this has been a movement for a long time. The saying of
removing the bomb is as old as they were created, this is why i believe that this may
be a possibility but not one we will experience.
This world can never be a weaponless world because humans are consumers and
destroy everything, so we alone are the weapons. We can find the most unharmful
thing and still convert it into a weapon. There are some crazy unstable people that
just use a fork to kill people or a bat which its original use was to play baseball and
have a good time. Most people have guns in their homes, and they are still people
evacuating their homes due to terrorist attacks. Weapons are always present. For all
the reasons stated above.
