My country –Russia.
Russia is my country. It is the biggest country in the world. The full name is the
Russian Federation. My country is situated on two continents: Europe and Asia.
There are many lakes, rivers, mountains and forests in my country. Seas and
oceans wash Russia in the north, east, west and south. My favourite sea is the
Black Sea. The capital of Russia is Moscow. You can see the Red Square and the
Kremlin there. The Russian flag includes three colours: white, blue and red. About
150 million people live there. I love my beautiful country!
Saint Petersburg
Saint Petersburg is the second largest city in Russia and one of the most beautiful
cities in the world. It was founded in 1703 by Peter the Great.
Saint Petersburg is a city of great beauty with palaces, cathedrals, churches,342
bridges, museums and monuments: The Hermitage, the Winter Palace, Saint
Isaac`s cathedral, Peter the Great monument, Kazan cathedral.
Lake Baikal is a very special lake in Russia. It is the oldest and deepest lake in the
world. Baikal is more than 25 million years old and about 5,387 feet deep. It is
home to more than 1,700 species of plants and animals. Many of them cannot be
found anywhere else. Baikal is also the largest source of fresh water on Earth.
People visit this lake to see its beauty and wildlife. It is a very important place for
scientists too. The lake is a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its biological
diversity.
