ACTIVITY 2: ARGUMENTATIVE VS. PERSUASIVE
1) The essay that appeals more to emotion is the essay 1 which is an
example of persuasive essay. In this example of essay, it persuades
readers to do or follow what is stated from what is written and
convinces them with beliefs, ideas, and emotions.
2) The essay that gave me facts from credible sources in justifying its
point is the second essay which is a argumentative essay. From this
essay, the author uses evidences, and facts to support his/her claim.
3) The lines from the first essay that somewhat prompts me to take
action is "Washing hands regularly before and after specific activities
is one of the best ways to eliminate bacteria from spreading to other
people." From this sentence, the author is trying to influence the
readers to regularly wash their hands before and after specific
activities. It also allows them that when they do the same thing, it
makes them to not be vulnerable in getting diseases.
4) The logical points that are shown in essay 2 that tells me to consider
washing my hands is "Good hand washing techniques must be
practiced. Hand washing is also the least expensive measure to
prevent transmission of nosocomial infections." and "It is stated to
be an important route of transmitting infection (DOH 2001a cited in
Dougherty, L. et al 2004). Survey shows that hand washing not
carried out to the high standards desired." From this points, it
influences and convinces the readers with a specific data and facts.
These facts and evidence that are included in the argument of
author are also from credible sources making it build logic for
readers.
