I. Context and Rationale
Juday ni diring dapita….
II. Action Research Questions
This action research sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the level of mastery of Grade 9 STE students on the 8 parts of speech prior to the
intervention?
2. Is there a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results of the learners?
3. What is the level of mastery of Grade 9 STE students on the 8 parts of speech after the
intervention?
4. Is there a significant difference in the level of mastery of the students on the 8 parts of
speech after the intervention?
III. Proposed Innovation, Intervention, and Strategy
With the aspiration of the researchers to improve the mastery of the students in
identifying and classifying words as to parts of speech as one of basic yet important skills in
English grammar, the intervention selected is the use of an existing poem “ The Parts of Speech”
as drill, trusting that
fundamental grammar lessons such as the parts of speech would be more appreciated, more
understood, and more remembered if practiced daily and creatively. Mastery of the lesson would
be achieved and be sustained if the learners recite the crucial points of the parts of speech
presented through the poem before a new lesson begins.
IV. Action Research Methods

V. Participants and other Sources of Data and Information
a. Participants
The intervention will be administered to all Grade 10 STE students in Taligaman
National High School during their English class. Regardless of the scores during the pre-test, all
35 students enrolled in the said grade level and section will undergo the intervention.
This class was selected as the participants to the study since they are the first batch of JHS
completers in the STE curriculum who undergo the full in-person classes right after the pandemic,
Further, the intervention would be more advantageous to them as they will be exposed to higher
level of English grammar lessons, wherein, the knowledge on the eight part of speech will always
be of constant use.
b. Data Gathering Methods
In this intervention, a pre-test will be conducted to the entire class to test the
mastery of the learners on the eight parts speech. After giving of feedback on the
results, a poem will be introduced and discussed to the students in one class hour.
The copy of the poem will be given to them, with the task to memorize it and recite it
in class the next day. When all the students have already recited, the researcher will
then include the recitation of the poem by the entire class during the preliminary parts
of the lesson as part of the classroom routine.
After a week of daily recitation of the poem, the students will be given a post-test
on the eight parts of speech to determine if their level of mastery on the said lesson
has improved. Results of both pre-test and post-test will be used for analysis and
presentation.
c. Data Analysis Plan
Kang chikay gehapon ni diring luna…
Several statistical treatments will be used in this study to answer the Research
Questions.
Paired sample t-test. This will be used in identifying if there is a significant difference
between the pre-test and post-test results of the Grade 10 students.

VIII. Plans for Dissemination and Utilization
The researchers, with the approval of the Principal and the English Department Head,
will present the results of this action research during the Learning Action Cell to the English
teachers in school. The teachers may implement the same intervention across all grade levels
to ensure that the students will be able to master the eight parts of speech, a very elementary
lesson, yet a prerequisite to other skills in English grammar and communication.
