1. Locate your Population Comparison Country on a map – which region is it in?
Venezuela is in the South America region.
https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/venezuela.htm#:~:text=Geography%3A,mi.)
2. Is it a More Developed Country or Less Developed Country? How do you know?
The country Denmark is more developed than Venezuela because of the
HDI(Human Development Index) rating both have Denmark on the scale to 1 having 0.95
compared to Venezuela having a 0.69. https://ourworldindata.org/human-development-index
3. What is the overall current population distribution (i.e. even distribution, clustered
distribution, and linear distribution) in your Population Comparison Country? What are
the effects of the population distribution in your Population Comparison Country?
The Venezuelan distribution is very clustered along the northern coast of the
country.(https://mapsontheweb.zoom-maps.com/post/687607323743682560/population-distribu
tion-map-of-venezuela). A couple of effects from the population clustering would be Income
Inequality, health risks more spreadable, and more inequity of infrastructure in other
regions(Team, A. (2022, March 1). Population Density: AP® Human Geography crash Course |

4. Summarize Article 1 on the history of your country in your own words. Give two specific
pieces of evidence that describe the background and history of your Population
Comparison Country.
Article 1 is really about how constitutional history of Venezuela, starting from the
colonial era when Christopher Columbus first arrived in 1498. It highlights the impact of
Spanish colonization on the indigenous population, the struggle for independence from
Spain in the early 19th century led by figures like Simón Bolívar led to more modern era
things like dictatorsships in the country and bad instability.
2 Specific examples are: July 5 1811 when Venezuela finally declared
independence from Spain. This shows the background of the country as it was very much
influenced by the Spainerds in pre-independence. Chávez's Election and Constitutional
Reform: In 1998, Hugo Chávez was elected President, and he initiated a constitutional
reform process in 1999.This reform aimed to address political corruption and create a
more of a citizen like decision making in politics tn elected officials.
5. Summarize Article 2 for your country on policy in your own words. Give two specific
pieces of evidence that describe how the policy works or will work in your Population
Comparison Country.
Article 2 basically talks about on the crisis involving Venezuelan migrants.
where millions of Venezuelans have been leaving their country due to political and
economic hardships, and they've sought safety in neighboring nations like
Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Initially, these host countries extended a warm
welcome to Venezuelan migrants, granting them residence permits and work
opportunities. However, recent policy adjustments have made it tougher for new
migrants to enter these countries legally.
Two specific pieces of evidence regarding policy and how it works are
migration and economic/.finance development .To begin , Development in finance:
The article emphasizes the importance of development finance to support policies
benefiting Venezuelan migrants and host communities. While multilateral
development banks like the World Bank and the Inter-American Development
Bank (IDB) have offered funding to countries like Colombia, these funds are
currently insufficient. Political/organization donors and host countries are needed
to secure financial development .And, the second example mentions migration
focused policies mainly about other countries. Some countries, including Peru
and Ecuador, now require stricter entry conditions like passports and visas,
making it difficult for many Venezuelans without these documents to enter legally
,,yet states that many still enter illegally.
6. Is the policy more pro-natalist or anti-natalist? Why?
The policies made by neighboring countries are anti-natalist.Being that It imposes
harsher entry criteria and restrictions for Venezuelans seeking shelter in
neighboring nations such as Peru and Ecuador, making lawful admission more
difficult. This strategy discourages new arrivals and lowers population increase in
neighboring nations, connecting with anti-natalist policies aimed at limiting
population growth or immigration.
7. What is one thing that is similar and one thing that is different to your Focus Country
from what you have learned about your Population Comparison Country? (We will
discuss this question at the beginning of class on Thursday. Please be ready to share
your answers with the class.)
There are mainly two differences between Venezuela and Denmark; they are
government system/condition and human level development. With Venezuela they have
a very unstable government and their HDI is about 30% lower than Denmarks. However,
they do have some similarities like both have clustered populations along the coast.and
have many systems based in education.
