Process Writing II- Writing the Process.
When writing processes, it is essential to use sequence markers to indicate the order of the process.
Sequence markers: First, Then, Next, Thereafter, After that, Finally.
or
Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly, Fourthly etc.
The sequence markers make your process clear and orderly.
The process is written in present tense passive voice. (Please refer to the presentation on passive
voice to do the tasks in this hand out).
Task 01: The following is a basic description of how sugar is manufactured. Fill in the blanks
using correct sequence markers.
First Sugar cane is harvested. ……………………….the harvested canes must be cut and transported
to the factory ………………………the sugar cane must be crushed to extract the juice. The crushing
process must break up the hard nodes of the cane and flatten the stems. The juice
is…………………………… collected, filtered and sometimes treated and then boiled to drive off the
excess water. The dried cane residue (bagasse) is often used as fuel for this process.
…………………………… the remaining liquid is allowed to set into a solid mass known as jiggery.
