HYBRID CLASSROOM
Ground Rules for Students Reading BSP1702/BSP1702X
Semester 1 AY2020/2021
• Safe-distancing measures limit
classroom attendance.
• Students may not be able to
attend class.
Why hybrid
classrooms?
They may not be able to:
• leave their campus zone,
• leave their country and/or enter
Singapore, or
• attend in person as they:
• may be ill,
• exhibit signs of illness, or
• are on Stay-Home Notice or
Quarantine.
What is the
hybrid
classroom?
Teaching a class on campus:
• face-to-face, and
• online
at the same time.
• This means:
• those in class need a way to
hear and see online students
and
• vice-versa.
Instructions for online students
Join the online meeting during your class
from https://luminus.nus.edu.sg > Tools >
Conferencing > Zoom

you want to speak.

physical location, stop the webcam.

REMINDERS
Audio
feedback
• With multiple microphones and
speakers in a confined space, the
chances for disruptive audio
feedback is high.
• Everyone in the meeting (even
those joining from outside the
classroom) should be disciplined
with their use of audio. When not
speaking, microphones should
be muted.
Online
students
• You are encouraged to
participate e.g. by
commenting or asking
questions in Zoom text chat
or raising hands in Zoom.
• You are reminded to mute your
microphones when not speaking
Students in
Class
• Students in class
• Help classmates to highlight
questions or hand raises to your
Lecturer
• You can also relay text chat
comments or questions to your
Lecturer
Limited bandwidth
Campus wi-fi relatively robust, but not built with
these in mind:
• Multiple web conferences in a small space, and
• Multiple web conferences in many venues simultaneously.
If there are bandwidth issues, everyone should
disable their webcams.
