K-OIL PLUS GENUINE DIESEL ENGINE OIL
(SAE 15W- 40 VISCOSITY GRADE)
1. SCOPE
This specification describes the performance, blending, and quality assurance
requirements of K-OIL Plus Genuine Diesel Engine Oil for use as a service fill oil for
KOEL Diesel engines. The K-OIL Plus conforms & exceeds API-CF4 Class Quality
Requirements.
This oil is specifically formulated to provide superior low temperature fluidity, high
temperature stability, extended oil drain interval capability and overall performance. This
specification applies to the final blended product covering every ingredient including
additives, viscosity index improvers, pour point depressants and base stocks.
This specification forms the basis for selection & testing of appropriate lube oil grades
offered by the Oil Manufacturers. The selected lube oil grades shall undergo
performance & validation tests as per KOEL CRE testing standard, prior to approval for
use on KOEL Engines. The oil shall be re-approved, if there are any changes in
composition, blend properties, or quality.
2. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:
The lube oil specification is based on the standards listed below & other crossreferences (such as ASTM, etc) contained in these standards
SAE J183
SAE J300
SAE J304
SAE J 357
SAE J 2227
API 1509
Engine Oil Performance & Engine Service Classification
Engine Oil Viscosity Classification
Engine Oil Tests
Physical and Chemical Properties of Engine Oils
International Tests and Specifications for Automotive Engine Oils
Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System
3. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
The KOEL service fill engine oil must meet all performance requirements
of the latest API "C" (diesel) category as defined in ASTM D 4485.
Proper read across and interchange guidelines as defined in the latest
API 1509 EOLCS document are applicable.
The lubricating oils offered by Oil Manufacturers shall conform / exceed
the API - CF- 4 Class Quality Requirements. The Lube oil
Manufacturers/suppliers and/or Additive Manufacturers/suppliers shall
provide the necessary certificates / reports regarding the compliance to
the API-CF4 Class Quality Requirements, inclusive of the Reference

Engine test data as stipulated in TABLE 1-F of SAE J 183 & Table 1A, 1B
and 2 of SAE J 304. These tests include testing of Lube oil on reference
Engines to evaluate the Engine Performance factors.
(Refer TABLE 1-F of SAE J 183 & Table 1A TABLE 1B & TABLE 2 of
SAE J 304)
For ready reference, TABLE 1-F of SAE J 183 & TABLE 2 of SAE J 304
are reproduced in Annexure I & II respectively.
4. ADDITIVE REQUIREMENTS
4.1.
Upon approval, no changes shall be made in the additive system without
KOEL’s prior consent. The approved additive system is then blended with
qualified base stocks, viscosity index improvers and pour point depressants,
as required, to meet the additional performance requirements listed in Clause
5.
4.2.
The Lube oil Manufacturer shall furnish the Details of the Additive Package
used for reference
4.3
All non-ASTM monitored test stands must be referenced according to prior
Reference oil tests to ensure test validity and severity.
4.4
The additive system, when properly blended, shall conform to the appropriate
Engine tests as per KOEL-CRE testing Standard
4.5
The additive system, when properly blended, shall be field tested & validated
on KOEL Engines, representative of typical applications. Normal field test
monitoring practice should apply, and results reviewed by KOEL-CRE.
5. BLENDING REQUIREMENTS
5.1.
The lubricant base stock blends must be of high quality API Group II, III or IV
products
5.2.
The viscosity index improver(s) shall be of OCP, DOCP, PMA, DPMA, or
NDSI type, or a mixture as required, and with a typical shear stability index of
24 SSI.
5.3.
In addition to General Requirements as per Clause 3, the Lube oil
characteristics properties with specified limits, test methods & stipulated
frequency of tests as listed in TABLE - 1 below form the initial blend
qualification for K-OIL PLUS 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil. Certification of
Analysis together with corresponding frequency recommendations are also
