Discussion 6.1: Magnetic Force (Right-Hand Rule)
Using the Right-Hand Rule, determine the direction of the magnetic force on a negative charge moving in
a uniform magnetic field as shown in the diagrams A-C below.
Will the results on each case be the same if the charge is positive? How?

In Diagram A, using the right hand the direction of magnetic force will be to the left, but if it is a positive
the direction will be to the right.

In Diagram B, using the right hand the direction of magnetic force will be into the page and when if it is
positive it will be in opposite of it which is out of the page.
Diagram C
In Diagram C, using the right hand the direction will be downward the same goes for this it will be
opposite direction of the magnetic force when it is positive.
Therefore, the results would not be the same if the charge is positive because the direction of the
negative charge is opposite to the direction of the positive charge.
