THE FEDERALISTS PAPERS
I SELECTED HAMILTON'S FEDERALIST PAPER. HIS PAPER FOCUSED
ON THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE JUDICIARY BRANCH. HE ARGUED
THAT JUDICIARY INDEPENDENCE IS ESSENTIAL TO UPHOLDING THE
CONSTITUTION. HE ALSO EXPALINED THAT JUDGES SHOULD TO
HAVE LIFETIME APPOINMENTS TO HELP THEM FROM NUNDUE
INFLUENCES, ENSURING IMPARTIALITY AND THE PROTECTION OF
INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. HAMILTON WAS TRYING TO CONVINCE
AMERICANS TO SUPPORT THE JUDICIAL BRANCH AND THE
IMPORTANCE OF A STRONG INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY. TWO PIECES
OF EVIDENCE OF THIS COULD BE: "THE COMPLETE INDEPENDENCE
OF THE COURTS OF JUSTICE IS PECULIARLY ESSENTIAL IN A
LIMITED CONSTITUTION. THE INTERPRETATION OF THE LAWS IS
THE PROPER AND PECULIAR PROVINCE OF THE COURTS." AND "THE
JUDICIARY, FROM THE NATURE OF ITS FUNCTIONS, WILL ALWAYS
BE THE LEAST DANGEROUS TO THE POLITICAL RIGHTS OF THE
CONSTITUTION, BECAUSE IT WILL HAVE THE LEAST CAPACITY TO
ANNOY OR INJURE THEM." I BELIEVE HAMILTONS PAPER IS
IMPORTANT BECAUSE THIS LED TO THE CREATION OF CHECKS AND
BALANCES AND HELPED SHAPE THE DEBATES OVER THE
RATIFICATION OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION.
