Introduction:
Career decision is very important for a senior high school
graduating student to take although doing it is a lifelong
process. It is a continuous process throughout the development
of a person.
Prior to the implementation of the K to 12 Curriculum
program, problems and challenges were already identified by, .
Among of those, Philippines is the last country in Asia and one
of only three countries in the world (the other two being Djibouti
and Angola of Africa) with a ten-year pre-university program.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Introduction:
In addition, poor quality of basic education was reflected
in the inadequate preparation of high school graduates for the
world of work which contributes to the relatively high
unemployment rate among the young and the educated
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Curriculum Exits
Introduction:
Many senior high school students were hesitant and
worried if they will be able to land a job, establish a business on
his/her own, proceed to
college or take higher vocational course. Although, the DepEd
has already prepared the students to decide the possible career
exits they will have through the Career Guidance Program (DO
41, s. 2015), but still uncertainty
still do exist to the minds of the Grade 12 students.
To address these concerns and worries of the Grade 12
graduating students, we have this so called “Career Coaching”
today.

By the time you graduate from
SHS, you will have the standard
knowledge, skills, and
competencies needed for higher
education. Also, some subjects
in the College General
Education curriculum have now
been integrated into the SHS curriculum. These
subjects will be taken out of the college curriculum,
leaving only the subjects that are more focused
and relevant to your chosen course or major.

SHS opens up more employment
opportunities for graduates. SHS
graduates of the TechnicalVocational-Livelihood (TVL) track
may apply for TESDA Certificates of
Competency (COCs) and National
Certificates (NCs). Partnerships with
different companies for technical and vocational courses
expose students to the real world of work. Students also gain
work experience while studying; and companies can even
hire them after they graduate.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Curriculum Exits
Those who were planning to work
after graduation, may opt to check on the following:
• Public Employment Service Office (PESO) – in our locality
for possible job vacancies.
• Department Of Labor and Employment (DOLE) –
www.dole.gov.ph, for possible local employment
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Curriculum Exits
In the case of those under the TVL
track, they can acquire TESDA Certificate of Competency
(COC’s) and National Certificate (NC), and use this as ticket
for employment.
In some partner companies/training
partners, students also gain work experience while studying.
And companies may hire them after they graduate.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Curriculum Exits
With the inclusion of
an entrepreneurship
subject in the
curriculum, SHS
graduates are better
equipped for small-scale business
activities, such as running the family
business or even starting their own
business.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
Curriculum Exits
Standard requirements built
into the TVL track ensure
that graduates have good
job knowledge in their
chosen specializations.
In the same way that SHS graduates are better
prepared for college, they are also better
equipped for developing more specialized skills
in technical-vocational schools

curriculum flexibility allows for three (3) subject substitutions,
provided that the replacement subjects are related to the field of
specialization
•For ABM, STEM, HUMSS under the Academic Strand, Sports,
and Arts and Design –there should be six (6) subjects consistent,
in content and competencies, with the approved SHS curriculum
and use the approved curriculum guides.
•For GAS, there should be at least four (4) subjects consistent, in
content and competencies, with the approved SHS curriculum. This
is so because GAS allows for two (2) electives. If the electives are
to be taken from the other academic strands or TVL specializations,
such electives must be consistent, in content and competencies,
with the approved SHS curriculum and use the approved curriculum
guides.

Does my voucher have
an expiration date?
The voucher is good for use only in the SY
immediately following Grade 10. Even without
a voucher, one may still enroll in SHS, and
after one or two years of completing Junior
High School. One may enroll in a public SHS
school or a private or non-DepEd school at his
own expense. The voucher can be availed only
for two successive school years; so if one fails
the first year of SHS (Grade 11), Grade 12
tuition will not be covered anymore.
