1.) A tree 20 meters high casts a 15.2 meter shadow. Find the angle of elevation to the sun. Round to the nearest degree.
2.) A plane is flying at an altitude of 20,000 ft. From the pilot, the angle of depression to the airport tower is 40o. How
far, in horizontal miles, is the tower from a point directly beneath the plane? Round to the nearest tenth.? (1 mile = 5,280
feet)
3.) A blue whale swims 30 feet below sea level. If the whale is 78.2 feet from a ship, what is the angle of depression of
the ship to the whale? Round to the nearest degree.
4.) A firefighter on the ground sees fire break through a window near the top of the building. The firefighter’s angle of
elevation to the windowsill is 46o, and the angle of elevation to the top of the building is 54o. The firefighter is 88 feet
from the building. What roof-to-windowsill distance can he report by radio to the firefighters on the roof? Round to the
