This diagram shows the different steps in the process of making tomato ketchup.
Of the fifteen steps in the process, the first major step is the careful selection of the
tomatoes at the sorting station, followed by the harvest of the tomatoes. Good quality
tomatoes are sent to the ketchup factory where they are skinned, de-seeded and stemmed.
They are collected in the container to change its consistency. The pulp thus obtained is
boiled at a controlled temperature for a certain period of time. Before the boiling process,
sugar, vinegar and salt are added in the correct proportion to this mixture. After boiling, the
mixture is left alone for about two hours to reach the proper "tomato ketchup" stage and is
bottled in individual bottles. Uniformly filled bottles are labeled and sent for packaging
before quality control. The next stage is distribution, when the product reaches
supermarkets and other retail outlets and, ultimately, individual customers.
