As you progress in the Quest, you’ll find some words native to Indian culture. Find below their
detailed meaning. Feel free to return back to the glossary whenever you want to recap or
deepen your understanding on some of them.
Aaa, Ooo, Mmm
The 3 fundamental sounds of existence. Uttering them activates the 3 segments of one’s body –
lower, middle and upper, bringing the necessary foundation for the pleasantness of one’s being.
Ashram
A space for self-transformation.
Guru
Lit. dispeller of darkness. A spiritual master, a realized being who guides spiritual seekers
toward liberation.
Isha
Formless divine energy. Also the name chosen by Sadhguru for the foundation he established to
offer a spiritual possibility to the world.
kala
Refers to both time and space.
Karma
Lit. action. Used to refer to the composite expression of past actions, which binds one to the
body and determines many aspects about a person.
Kriya
Lit. act, rite. Refers to a certain class of yogic practices. Inward energy action.
Mahabharata
Historic Indian epic poem, one of the two major epics of ancient India; the longest epic poem
known.
Nada Yoga
“Nada” means sound. Nada Yoga is the yoga of sound or reverberation.
Nadis
The channels through which the life force, or prana, flows in the energy body.

Namaskar
The traditional Indian practice of putting two hands together, which harmonizes the two
dimensions (right-left, masculine-feminine, etc.) within a person, and promotes an experience of
unity and sovereignty within the self, while acknowledging the same in others.
Runanubandha
Physical memory of the body. The bondage caused by physical relationships.
Shuddhi
Derived from Sanskrit, means “purification”.
Yoga
Lit. union.
“Yogasthaha Kuru Karmani”
Refer to the Bhagavad Gita - Used by Krishna. It means first establish in Yoga and then act.
Yogi
One who is in a state of yoga.
