1. Briefly Explain all the Principles of National Environment Policy 2006
the principles of the National Environment Policy 2006 (NEP 2006):
Prevention is better than cure: This principle emphasizes the importance of preventing
environmental degradation rather than trying to fix it after it has happened.
Polluter pays principle: This principle states that the polluter should bear the costs of pollution
control and cleanup.
Precautionary principle: This principle states that if there is a threat of serious or irreversible
environmental damage, even if there is no scientific certainty about the cause, action should be
taken to prevent it.
Sustainable development: This principle states that development should meet the needs of the
present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Equity: This principle states that environmental protection should be fair and equitable, and that
the benefits and burdens of environmental protection should be shared equitably.
Public participation: This principle states that the public should be involved in decision-making
about environmental issues.
Good governance: This principle states that environmental management should be transparent,
accountable, and effective.
Science and technology: This principle states that environmental management should be based
on sound science and technology.
International cooperation: This principle states that environmental management should be
conducted in a spirit of international cooperation.
