PHOTOJOURNALISM
vs
PHOTOGRAPHY
Photojournalism
In photojourn,
you capture
what is there.
Photojournalism
…you DO NOT
control it…
Photojournalism
…you DO NOT
photoshop it…
Photojournalism
…you DO NOT
set it up.
While in
PHOTOGRAPHY…
Deals with making
visual of anything.
Photojournalism
is a branch of
photography
dealing mostly
with current
events.
Basically, anybody
can be a
photographer, while
you’ll need a degree
if you want to be a
photojournalist.
One of the key
strengths of
photojournalism is
its ability to capture
raw, unedited
moments.
Another important
aspect is its ability
to highlight
important issues
and bring attention
to them.
SOME OF THE MOST
POWERFUL PHOTOS
CAPTURED BY
PHOTOJOURNALISTS
U.S, Washington D.C.,1967. An
American young girl, Jan Rose
Kasmir, confronts the American
National Guard outside the
Pentagon during the 1967 antiVietnam march. This march helped
to turn public opinion against the
U.S. war in Vietnam.
Although millions have seen Kevin
Carter’s 1993 photo of this starving
child in famine-plagued Sudan, far
fewer know that the child actually
lived while Carter himself, who
was criticized for not intervening,
did not.
The non-human face of the climate
crisis: This eastern grey kangaroo and
her joey, encountered near Mallacoota
in the state of Victoria, Australia, were
among the lucky survivors of intense
bushfires that devastated parts of
southeastern Australia in the summer
of 2019-2020.
