DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE
1.Objectives
A. Content Standard
The
learner
demonstrates recognition
of
the
constellations and the information derived from their
location in the sky.
B. Performance Standard
The learner should be able to identify any two
constellations and relates them to compass directions.
C. Learning Competency
The learner should be able to identify star patterns that
can be seen at particular times of the year. (S5FE-IVi-j-9)
1. Unpacked Competency
The learner should be able to name common
constellations that appear in the night sky at particular
times of the year and explain how constellations were
used.
2. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic
Constellation and Its Uses
B. Science Ideas
A constellation is a group of stars that forms a certain
pattern. It is used to tell general directions, changes of
seasons, locate galaxies, and point other things in the
universe that are seen to the sky.
C. Science Processes
Observing,
Explaining
D. Value Focus
Diligence, Gratitude, Cooperation

III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. ENGAGE
1. DRILL
1. Prayer
2. Checking of attendance
2. REVIEW
Show the pictures to the class and let them identify what
phases of the moon is it.
B. EXPLORE
1. MOTIVATION
Play Riddles. Ask for volunteers to pick a letter.
Sample Riddles.
1. I’m bright but I’m not clever
I burn but I’m not a bonfire
I sound like I’m a celebrity but I’m not famous
I twinkle but I’m not an eye
I can be seen at night but I’m not a moon
I am a?
Answer: A Star
2. At night they come out without being fetched and
by day they are lost without being stolen.
What are they?
Answer: Stars
3. Why did the star go to school?
Answer: To get brighter
4. Why did the star get arrested?
Answer: Because it was a shooting star
Ask: What did you notice?
2. PRESENTATION
Present to the class what is a constellation, common
constellation that appears in the night sky at particular
times of the year.
3. PRE-ACTIVITY
Group the class into four. Let them assign their roles:
leader, assistant leader, writer or scriber, facilitator, and
sharer per group. Tell them also about the standards in
performing the group activity. Recite to them the
GROUPS.
G – Get along
R – Respect others
O – On task
U – Use a quiet voice
P – Participate
S – Stay in your group
4. ACTIVITY PROPER
Ask the students to go to their perspective groups and
share their drawings to see if they match with each other.
Note: The students were given an assignment to go
outside and observe the stars with an adult
accompanying them. They were to find pattern of stars
that look something familiar like a shape of an object or
animal and sketch as many patterns of stars they saw.
After sharing their drawings, show a video clip to the
class. https://youtu.be/1sZ15SUeS9w
Tell them to watch and listen carefully to the video and
answer the following guided questions. Using the guide
questions, the students are tasked to make a graphic
organizer from it and present it to the class.
Guided questions:
Part 1
1. What is constellation?
2. What are the constellations that you saw in the
video?
3. What are the qualities of each constellation?
Part 2
4. What are the common illustrations drawn by your
classmates?
5. Which of your constellations
observed by your classmate?
match
those
C. EXPLAIN
1. GROUP REPORTING
After the groups have done performing the activity, ask a
volunteer reporter in each group to share to the class
their output.
2. DISCUSSION
Ask the presenter’s group of how they feel in doing the
activity when they were observing the night sky. Ask also
if they have the same illustrations in the video shown. Ask
the other group about their feedback.
D. ELABORATE
1. GENERALIZATION
Ask the class: Why is it only a few of the common
patterns that can be seen in the sky were seen when you
went outside last night and not all the common pattern?
Do you know that the constellation have its uses? What
are the uses of constellations?
Present a PowerPoint presentation.
2. APPLICATION
Using differentiated instruction, each group will make a
scenario wherein the uses of constellation is being
shown and present it in form of either a role play, jingle,
speech choir.
Note: The teacher will assigned the differentiated task
through a mobile game of roulette.
Sample assigned task:
Group 1 – Role play
Group 2 – Jingle
Group 3 – Speech Choir
