Adverbial Infinitives
and Clauses
WHAT IS
AN ADVERBIAL
INFINITIVE?
Just like a single-word
adverb, an infinitive used
as an adverb always
describes a verb. An
adverbial infinitive usually
occurs at the beginning or
at the end of a sentence
and does not need to be
near the verb it describes.
Examples:
To love
To eat
To run
To believe
To follow
To stare

WHAT IS
AN ADVERB
CLAUSE?
It answers the
questions, How?,
When?, or Why?.
It is introduced by a
subordinating
conjunction that makes
the clause dependent.
 Neil tried to finish his

his favorite show.
 Monique rehearsed her
dance number until she felt
