Creativity & Change
• Creativity is described as the process of generating new ideas, while
innovation is a process that turns those ideas into reality. Innovation →
applied creativity.
• Change is the keyword in Innovation. The more you do something that
fundamentally changes your market and forces your competitors to
react, the more innovative you are.
• Companies eventually reach a plateau where increased efforts on
improving current products, services and processes bring minimal
improvements on return. Innovation, therefore, is required to take a
company into new heights.

Kirton Innovation-Adaptation Instrument
• The 1st step in changing attitudes and behaviors is to use a diagnostic tool to
identify one’s personal innovation style → the Kirton InnovationAdaptation instrument.
• < 96 means you are more adaptive, while > 96 means you are naturally
more innovative.
• Adaptive skills are very helpful in structuring work and getting results, and
adaptors are quite capable in making breakthroughs just not as easily as
innovators.
• Innovators are more flexible in where they search for opportunities and are
constantly toying with ideas.
• Organization benefits by having both of them within their ranks. Adaptors
are skilled at building structures and procedures to ensure the innovator’s
ideas find a supportive home where they can thrive.
