Assignment #3
Given: Week 11 – December 12th, 2011
Due: Week 12 – December 19th, 2011 beginning of the lecture
Please solve the following questions in your textbook
Chapter 3: 18 (Also compute E[X] and Var(X)), 37, 128, 130, 135, 140,
143, 148.
You need to submit your solutions for all the problems above but I will
only grade a randomly selected set of 4 questions each worth 25
points.
Bonus question for 10 extra points: Let us assume that you want to get
at least 75/100 from the assignment and you do not want solve all of
the 8 questions. Further assume that if you solve a question you will
solve it correctly and if it is graded you will receive 25/25 for that
question. What is the minimum number of questions you need to
answer if you want to ensure there is at least 85% of chance you get a
minimum of 75 from the assignment.
Submit your solutions in hardcopy due beginning of the class.
As an exercise, you may also work on the following questions: 17
(compute c.d.f., mean, and variance), 120, 121, 122, 125, 127, 134, 138,
139, 141, 159.
