Functions is important as it can be used in different fields of study
One example of the usage of function is in architecture
In determining or graphing the parabola of an structure we can use the quadratic function
For this example we are gonna use the golden gate bridge
With this we will be using the vertex form of the quadratic function
f(x) = a(x - h)^2 + k
first of all we need to identify the point of the vertex
That point is (640,0)
The next step us to find the coordinate of the other pillar which is (1280,152)
And then using the equation we can find the a
y-k = a(x - h)^2
152-0 = a(1280 - 640)^2
19/51200=a
And btw if the parabola is opening upward then a > 0 but if its downward the a should be a < 0
And after this we can now graph the parabola
f(x) = 19/51200 (x -640)^2 + 0

If the pillars that is supporting the cable is 300 feet apart and 45 feet high with the lowest height of the
cable at 10 meters. What is the function in order to graph the parabola in desmos
With the vertex of the parabola in the bridge at 150 meters below the center of the bridge and with
both end of the bridge is 400 meters apart. What is the function of the parabola in order to graph it at
desmos?
150 meters
400 meters
Vertex (200,0)
Point of the other side of the parabola(400,-150)
-150-0=a(400-200)^2
Find a
-0.00375=a
f(x)=a(x-200)^2+0
