To be proficient with lab equipment, you need to know the names of common laboratory equipment, what
each piece of equipment is used for and how to properly use and care for the equipment. Visit the website
“Science with Sandy” by typing the following address, exactly as listed, into your task bar:

We will be looking at Activities 1 & 2 and Assessments 1 & 2 for this WebQuest.
Click on Activity 1 (Equipment Names Scavenger Hunt). There are 24 pictures of equipment listed. Below
the pictures, or by clicking on the link “lists” you will find a list of names of common lab equipment. Below
the list or by clicking on “resources” you will find a short list of 3 links to science lab equipment companies.
“Hunt” around within these sites to help identify the pictures. Number your own paper 1-24 and identify
the pictures that correspond to the numbered equipment.

After you complete the Scavenger Hunt go back to the link listed at the beginning of these instructions and
click the link for Activity 2 “Equipment Uses Flash Cards”. This link will take you to a flash card activity.
Click “Next” – a description of a use of an equipment will appear, click “Next” again and the piece of
equipment will be identified. Go through the flashcards several times, taking notes as to the use of the
equipment. Write down 5 pieces of equipment with their uses in your notebook (pg 9) by using the flash
cards or the ppt.
If you have time, visit the main page again and click on Assessment 1: “Lab Equipment Names Test” and
complete the short multiple choice test. You can take the quiz as many times as needed to master the
information. After you complete the “Lab Equipment Names Test” click the link for Assessment 2: “Lab
Equipment Uses Test” and try the quick matching quiz.
