Create a Mythological Greek Monster Checklist
Hello!! For this next assignment, you will be creating your own Greek monster. This assignment
has two parts. The first part is a descriptive writing part and the second is a drawing that
represents the monster you described in your writing piece. Both parts are due on Tuesday
February 02 at the beginning of class. Late assignments will be docked marks so please make
sure you have your work in on time. You will be given ample time in class and if you feel you will
not be able to complete both parts of the assignment during class time, please work on it at
home this weekend. Here is your checklist:
Descriptive Writing Part 1
- your descriptive writing part must have a captivating title.
- your monster must have an interesting name… no Bobs, Joes or Joans please.
- where in Greece does your monster reside (come from)? You’ll need to do a little research to
find your favorite Greek city.
- you may choose to do one of the following:
- wanted ad
- newspaper article
- article in a travel magazine
- descriptive story
- length 1 ½- 2 pages long. 14 font. Calibri or New Times Roman font type.
- remember, descriptive writing paints a picture in your reader’s mind.
- when I read your descriptive writing, I should be able to see, hear, feel, smell, and even taste
what you are describing. Please be creative, use your “juicy word bank” and stay away from
tired adjectives.
- EDIT!! Have someone else read your work. Grammar, spelling and punctuation count.
- I hope you have fun… I am really looking forward to reading what you have created!
- don’t forget to do part 2!!
Drawing Part 2
Now that you have created your monster, please draw me a picture of it. As we discussed in
class, I would like your drawings to be as detailed and colorful as you described in your writing.
- you should sketch a rough draft of your monster before creating a good copy but please only
hand in your good copy.
- use the pictures of the monsters that we discussed, which are posted in the room, as your
template of what excellent work looks like. Please pick 4 or 5 of your favorite features that your
monster has and include those on your drawing. Again, please refer to the pictures posted in
class, or ask me, if you need clarification about this.
- please use the whole page to draw your monster… don’t put a tiny little drawing in the corner
of the page. I want to see creativity, color and detail.

2) Hero or Villian?
2) What is your monster made up of? Half ________ and half ________?
