Camp Pangatian Memorial Shrine It is the largest Prisoner War Camp in the Philippines which housed thousands of US troops. Originality The Camp Pangatian Memorial Shrine is a 550-meter camp surrounded by barbed wire fencing and four guard towers It contains monuments and memorabilia of the events that transpired during the occupation. Uniqueness A long dirt road, between rows of cypress trees, leads to the memorial. The focal point is a huge marble niche with simply the name “Cabanatuan” engraved on it. Indigenousness The concrete foundations of a water tank, at the back of the memorial, is the only structure that remains of the original Pangatian Concentration Camp. Historicity This military Camp was liberated in 1945 and the memorial was erected in 1982. Uniqueness Labi river may not yet be on the radar of travelers looking for new destinations, but it has become the favorite weekend place for others especially for bikers and hikers.
