The Four Moves
Evaluating strategy to help you judge
whether content found online can be trusted
as credible and reliable.
Ask yourself:
 Do you know the site or source?
 What is its reputation?
 The claim
 The source
If you don’t know, USE the
other moves to get an idea
if this source is reliable.
Trace claims, quotes, and media back
to the original source:
 What was the context?
 Was it taken out of
context?
 Was the information accurately
presented in the source you are
considering?
DO NOT read, use or share
this information until you
understand what it is.
Take 60 seconds & ask yourself:
 What is the website’s
significance?
 Is it trustworthy?
 Is the author trustworthy?
 Is it worth your time?
Ask:
Are the other sources that are
similar?
Is there a better source?
More trusted?
More in-depth?
Are the sources from experts
that agree on an opinion?
