PATTERN & RHYTHM
THE ARRANGEMENT OF MOTIF
WHAT IS PATTERN??
Pattern involves
the repetition of a
basic unit, called a
motif. A motif is a
single image,
shape or a symbol.
Artists use different
ways to plan and
arrange a motif.
WHERE WE CAN SEE THE PATTERN??
•
Around us like from the
architecture of the buildings?
•
In the objects that man
made?
•
From the nature like trees ?
Flowers? Animals?
-The matter is you should have
the ability to see your pattern
design that available with the
existing beautiful
objects/images.
WHAT IS HALF DROP PATTERN?
•
Half-drop patterns
are made by dropping
every second line of
motifs down a halflength height of the
motif. These tiles from the
Topkapi Palace in Istanbul
are arranged in a half-drop
repeat. The leaf-shaped
motif is arranged so that
alternate columns are
staggered vertically by half
the height of the motif.
HOW ARTISTS USES HALF DROP PATTERNS IN THEIR DESIGN
•
Artists are looking for their
shapes from the nature
like flowers or leaves and
then drawing their designs
the motif( a set of shapes
meant for repeating).
•
Once the motif is ready
then they repeats it as the
plan of their arrangement
like regular rhythm or
alternative rhythm.
LETS GET INSPIRATION FROM NATURE AND DESIGN A
