01
What is soil?
Soil is fundamenral to growth of plants and ultimately the
success of all other living creatures
Soil is a natural resource and needs careful management to
keep it in a good condition

DID YOU KNOW?
The soil
Soil is a habitat for plants and other organisms that grow within it,
it is made up of a number of components :
Mineral particle, organic content, air and water
SLIDESMANIA.COM
Soil components
Mineral particles which are a combination of
rock fragments and other smaller inorganic items
Air which is held within the spaces between
the particles and oprganic contents of soil
Organic content which is a mixture of a living
plants and animals and their dead remains
Water which is also held within the soil pores
and and is the water that is available for the
plants to grow
The proportion of each of these four components will vary depending on
the type of soil and the way it has been managed the local climatic
conditions and the size of the mineral particles

great deal more than we know.

Where do soil components
come from?
Physical weathering
Physical weathering is often caused by frost, heat, water, and ice
or wind. The rocks can be broken down in a number of way such
as water freezing within them cracks in rocks and rocks heating
up causing them to expand and break
Chemical weathering
Chemical weathering can be caused bt carbon dioxide combining
with water to form a weak acid. This acid reacts with alkaline
metals in rocks causing them to crumble
Biological weathering
Biological weathering is caused by processes such as the growth
of plant roots into the cracks in rocks causing the rock to cracks
open and small fragments to break off

LET’S REVIEW SOME FACTS.
Elephants
Pandas
Cats
Elephants can sense storms.
Pandas don’t hibernate.
Cats use their whiskers as
feelers to determine if a space
is too small to squeeze through.
Dogs
Kangaroos
Koalas
Dogs can smell your feelings.
There are more kangaroos than
humans in Australia.
Koalas are even more lazy than
cats.
