NARRATIVE REPORT ON READING INTERVENTION
Reading is a multifaceted process that develops only with practice. There are certain
aspects of reading, such as fluency and word recognition, which can be learned in a few years.
These basics must be mastered but at the same time reading comprehension should be
emphasized in the process. Students can parrot words on a page all day long but if they don’t
have the necessary comprehension skills they will not be able to make predictions about what
will happen next, monitor their understanding of content, sequence or characters, clarify
confusing parts of the text, or connect what they’re reading to their own experience
or prior knowledge. and that is what true comprehension is all about. Reading makes up twentyfive percent of a totally macro skilled human, the seventy-five being writing, listening and
speaking. As an activity, reading is considered to be one of the most fascinating and enriching
things man has discovered.
Reading intervention is a program, supplementary to an existing literacy curriculum, that
is provided to students for the primary purpose of increasing reading levels. Such programs can
be administered both in and out of the traditional classroom environment. To boost the
development of reading and literacy skills of Nonreaders,.
Beginning readers and children at risk the following practices were implemented:
1. INSPIRE” Program (Intensive, Systematic, Phonics Instruction and Reading Recovery
Program OBJECTIVES:
1.To identify the strengths and weaknesses of pupils in reading through the
administration of diagnostic instruments.
2.To employ direct phonemic awareness training.
3.To emphasize teaching by drawing children’s attention to letters and words in popular
children’s stories.
4. To establish accuracy and fluency in beginning reading skills.
5. To improve comprehension skills of pupils.
6. To develop their love for reading.
7. To Strengthen the teachers’ skill in communication so that the quality of English
teaching will be improved.
2. SSD “ Share a Story a Day “ Project
Actual conduct of oral reading by the assigned reader was emphasized in this practice. In which
one pupil will share a story a day then he/ she will ask 3- 5 questions based on the story,
conducted in their own classrooms with the help of their teachers.
From all the experiences derived through teaching reading, we can conclude that these
experiences played a great help to the reading teachers both personal and social development in
teaching.
To have fair treatment with pupils, one can develop a whole some personality
and strength the good relationship being established with them. By using visual aid or audio
visual and also using the reading center with the Reading Instructional devices, the presentation
of the lessons the pupils attention can be easily caught and deliver the lesson every well.
Teach with a smile, develop good rapport to children, don't let them feel resistant to
approach us teacher. Encourage them to feel free to participate reading activities.
