Electoral (Prescribed Associations and Institutions) Notice, 2022
IT is hereby notified that the Minister of Justice, Legal and
Parliamentary Affairs has, in terms of paragraph 2(3) of the Seventh
Schedule to the Electoral Act [Chapter 2: 13], and in consultation
with the Minister responsible for administering the Disabled Persons
Act [Chapter 17:01], made the following notice:—
1. This notice may be cited as the Electoral (Prescribed
Associations and Institutions) Notice, 2022.
2. The provisions of the Seventh Schedule to the Electoral Act
shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to the filling of a vacancy that occurs
in the Senate for seats of persons elected to represent persons with a
disability which vacancy must be filled by a person of the same gender
as the person who previously held the seat.
3. The Minister prescribes the associations and institutions
listed in the First Schedule as associations and institutions which may
submit nominations to the National Disability Board established in
terms of section 4 of the Disabled Persons Act [Chapter 17:0l] to be
delegates at the Electoral College constituted in terms of paragraph 3
of the Seventh Schedule to the Act.
4. In conformity with paragraph 2(3) of the Seventh Schedule
to the Act, each prescribed association or institution must, in the
form prescribed in the Second Schedule, nominate four (two women
and two men) Electoral College delegates, in case of an association
referred to in Part I of the First Schedule, or two (one woman and one
man) Electoral College delegates, in the case of an institution or trust
referred to in Part II of the First Schedule.
5. The Electoral (Prescribed Associations and Institutions)
Notice, 2018, published in Statutory Instrument 126 of 2018, is hereby
repealed.
