Guidelines for kidney transplant in India
▪
Any transplant procedure in India has to be approved by the government organ transplant committee in India.
▪
The documentation is to be submitted to the committee and after reviewing the documentation, the committee will
interview the donor and the recipient before giving the approval. It may take about 2 weeks for final approval.
▪
Committee will interview the donor and recipient separately and
they will ask common questions (why are you donating, are you
pressured to donate, have you been given any money to donate,
and patient before arrival to India for
questions about the family relations and background etc.). If they
submitting to the hospitals -
suspect any mismatch in the answers or money being exchanged,
the committee may reject the donation.

Donor must be a first degree relative of the patient (father, mother,
sibling, spouse and children). The government committee may
approve transplant from a close relative like cousins etc. as well.
▪
Donor must be in the age group of 20 to 65 years.
▪
Donor and recipient blood group should match (O positive or
negative donors can donate to any blood group).
