Problem 1:
Determine the stability of the atmosphere given the following
data collected for Tagaytay:
(Use the relationship delta T/delta Height Z = (T2-T)/(Z2-Z1)
Elevation
Temperature
2.10 m
14.40 degC
325.00 m
11.25 degC
A. -1.02 degC per 100 m
B. -3.10 degC per 100m
C. -2.11 degC per 100m
D. -2.92 degC per 100m
Problem 2:
Determine whether the atmosphere is unstable, neutral or
stable:
Height, meters
Temperature, degC
a. 2
-3.01
319
-6.22
b. 10.1
5.20

A. neutral, unstable, stable
B. unstable, stable, stable
C. stable, neutral, neutral
D. neutral, stable, stable
Problem 3:
A power plant in Benguet is burning coal on a cold clear
January morning at 8:00 a.m., with a wind speed of 2.6 m/s
measured at an elevation of 31 m and an inversion layer with
its base founded at a height of 695 m. The effective height of
the stack is 31 m. Calculate the distance downward at which
the plume released will reach the inversion layer and start to
mix downward.
A. 5.82 km
B. 3.61 km
C. 2.11 km
D. 1.80 km
Problem 4:
A city in Laguna generate 0.96 kg/capita per day of municipal
solid waste (MSW). Makati City in Metro Manila generates
1.9 kg/capita per day of MSW. If both cities have a population
of 20,000 inhabitants, determine the following:
a. amount of MSW generated in each day;
b. number of trucks needed to collect the MSW twice weekly,
if each truck has a capacity of 4.4 tons and operates 5 days
per week. Two loads per day at 75% capacity is the travel
quota per day.
c. the number and volume of MSW in tons that enter the
landfill;
A. 19,100 kg/day and 39,000 kg/day; 4 trucks and 8 trucks; 58
cubic meters per day and 105 cubic meters per day;
B. 21,000 kg/day and 42,000 kg/day; 5 trucks and 10 trucks;
66 cubic meters per day and 120 cubic meters per day;
C. 15,000 kg/day and 35,000 kg/day; 6 trucks and 12 trucks;
75 cubic meters per day and 200 cubic meters per day;
D. 25,000 kg/day and 44,000 kg/day; 8 trucks and 15 trucks;
100 cubic meters per day and 250 cubic meters per day;
