RESEARCH
• Assad dictatorship, Arab spring 2011. Sunni Arabs (second-class
status). Protests. Assad troops shot demonstrators. Other Arabs
took up arms to defend themselves => civil war.
• Parties involved: Assad (Shia) vs. Sunni Muslims, also Al Qaeda, ISIS].
• As of today, almost 250,000 people have been killed, with 4 million
people fleeing the country.
