SAQ 1.2
SUBJECT: ENGLISH
GRADE LEVEL: 8th GRADE
GRADING PERIOD: 4th QUARTER
CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and West Asian literature as an expression of
philosophical and religious beliefs; information flow in various text types; reality, fantasy, and
opinion in listening and viewing materials; word decoding strategies; and use of information
sources, active/passive constructions, direct/reported speech, perfect tenses, and logical
connectors in journalistic writing.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of journalistic texts, the contents of which
may be used in composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring use of properly
acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and
emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.
Possible Performance Task (in relation to the standards):
INFORMATIVE JOURNALISTIC REPORTING (News Casting)
Answer: In what way will the performance task address the learning standard (ANSWER IN 5
SENTENCES)
During the quarter, the students will be presented with various information from South and
West Asian literature as an expression of philosophical and religious beliefs as the main context.
Consequently, through contextualizing, they will be taught various skills and strategies in
connection to writing, listening, and viewing the said materials along with the proper grammatical
application as indicated in content standards. In order to cater to the requirements in
performance standards, the performance task—informative journalistic reporting—has what it
takes to encompass the entire learning experience in one output instead of plain speech. The said
performance task will make use of the content as resource material—its information, strategies,
and standards— stimulating knowledge application and critical thinking throughout the working
process, which will also decrease the workloads for students to research from various resources.
Hence, from the process of brainstorming, writing, and performing, informative journalistic
reporting will require the students to review the content, employ the strategies and perform the
generated piece for application.
