One-Pager Project – Book Analysis
What is it? A one pager is a single-page response to your reading that connects the ideas in the
book to your thoughts creatively. The purpose of the one-pager is so that your audience will
understand the big ideas, themes, and connections within the book. You will need to write small.
This will be your final assessment over you Hero’s Journey novel.
● All of this must be done on an 8 ½ by 11 blank piece of computer paper. I will provide the
computer paper.
● This assignment is worth 60 points.
Here is the breakdown of points:
Everyone Must do:
1. Title and border (5 points)
Write the title of the book and author’s name somewhere on the page (this can be
done creatively!).
Include a border that explains a theme of the novel. This can include words,
pictures, symbols, or quotes from the text that support the theme. Remember
theme is a life lesson.
2. Two Meaningful Questions (5 points)
These ARE not be yes or no questions, but how, why, or explain questions.
Answers should cite text evidence according to the RACE strategy (Restate,
Answer, Cite, Explain).
3. Hero’s Journey Illustrated Images (10 points)
Illustrate 3 images that represent the character’s journey to becoming a hero. If
you are not an artist, please use another format to make it beautiful. You can
trace the pictures from another source, like a printed picture.You can create
your illustrations using other mediums.
These should be strongly connected to Hero’s Journey. Refer to your hero’s
journey notes.
Explain how your examples illustrate the hero’s journey in 2 or 3 sentences.
4. Interesting Quotes (5 points)
Find two meaningful quotes. These quotes should resonate it with you. These
quotes should make you feel something.
Include quotation marks and a citation (Rowling 1997).
If your passage/quote is a part of dialogue, include the character’s name who said
it.
On the back of your paper, explain why this quote resonated with you.
5. Hero’s Journey(10 points)
Identify the elements of the Hero’s Journey in Harry Potter or The Giver. All 10 steps
are explained in complete sentences. Please refer to your Hero’s Journey notes.
6. Text opinion (on the back) (5 points)
In five to seven sentences add what your overall opinion of the novel is and what
you would say when you recommend the book. If you would not recommend the
book, please explain why. If you would recommend the book, please explain why.
7. Grammar, spelling, and mechanics (5 points)
There is little to no problems with grammar, spelling, mechanics.
8. Be colorful and neat. (5 points)
Your entire page should be filled with these elements. Responses are neatly
written or typed and neatly placed on your page.
If you find you have extra room, repeat any of the above steps/ elements.
No space should be blank. THERE SHOULD BE NO WHITE SPACE
Nothing should be left in pencil. If your hand writing is not neat, you may type
elements.
Your name,class period, quote explanation, and text opinion should be on the
BACK of the one-pager.
You pick 1 elements of literature from the following list:
1. Identify the Conflicts (10 points)
a. Write THREE 3 conflicts in the novel you are reading.
b. Identify the type of conflict i.e. Man Vs Man, Man vs Self, Man vs Society, Man vs
Nature, Society vs Man, Nature vs Man, etc.
c. Explain how this conflict impacts the novel and the characters.
2. Figurative language (10 points)
a. Create THREE examples of figurative language (simile, metaphor, hyperbole,
alliteration, etc.) emphasizing some part of the novel (characters, conflicts, themes,
settings, etc.)
b. Explain how these examples are important to the character, conflict, theme, or
setting.
4. 6 Word Memoir (10 points)
a. Create a 6 Word Memoir for 3 main characters.
b. Write 3-4 sentences explaining each memoir.
