1. Hard Swallow (Effortful) Exercise: With sips of water, swallow with the force you would produce to take a large
pill by pushing your tongue firmly against the roof of your mouth. Do at least ___ times.
2. Swallow-Cough-Swallow (Super Supraglottic Swallow) Exercise: With small sips of water, swallow, then cough,
then swallow your saliva. Do at least ____times.
3. Tongue Out (Masako) Swallow Exercise: With small sips of water, stick the tip of your tongue out, hold between
your teeth, and swallow at the same time. Do at least ___ times.
4. Chin Tuck Swallow Exercise: With small sips of water, swallow with your chin down trying to touch your neck.
You may use a small ball to hold between your neck and chest to add some resistance. Do at least ___ times.
5. Mendelsohn Swallow Exercise: With small sips of water, hold your Adam’s apple/thyroid up with your hand for
3-5 seconds and swallow hard. Do at least ___ times.
6. Shaker Swallow Exercise: While laying down on a bed or flat surface, elevate your head towards your chin and
hold for 1 minute. Return your head to resting position for 30 seconds. Completed these for 15 minutes.
