conduct research on the background and cultural meanings of a story in order to understand, clarify and
provide justified explanations about the context and make sure it will be understood in an appropriate
way by the reader.
Regarding the panels, they should be large enough and with clear outline, to help the ‘dys’ reader
distinguish between the different actions and scenes. Also, be aware of the order of the panels which
should follow a left to right order (for western countries), aligned and not in a random order and in not
too many different shapes and sizes across the pages. This will help pupils with SLDs to navigate easily
through the different panels and be able to follow the storyline. The comic bubble or balloons can vary
in shapes and styles, as long as they stay consistent throughout the comic strip; but it is important to
have enough space inside the bubbles for the text to fit, avoiding the use of the hyphen to break the
words. Also, the balloons should not overlap with each other or with the frame of the panel.
Create the story: Each story needs to have a plot which serves as the guiding force and ensures there is a
beginning, middle, and end. This will make learners/readers of the story feel comfortable and focus on
the information.

The animal kingdom is constantly being put in danger by the actions of man. We have to look out for
these amazing creatures because we are all linked together with every animal playing its part. The loss
of the tiniest insect could have extremely drastic effects on the entire planet. Because of their
importance, animals need our help to insure their rights and safety.
Every year more and more animals are becoming endangered either by their homes being destroyed
(like in the case of the polar bears) or due to other factors like poaching. Thankfully, there are a large
number of amazing organizations around the world that are working everyday to keep these animals
from extinction.

Many of the earths animals are slowly becoming endangered due to a number of different factors.
Although it seems unimaginable, some people treat their pets and other animals with cruelty and
neglect. Animal cruelty can take on many forms and is incredibly wrong.
All the children deal with the issue of bullying and how to address this assertively and positively.
1. Write about a time when you stood up for something that you believed
in. Was it hard to express an opinion that other people didn’t agree
with? Why or why not?
2. Write short one-paragraph stories about four different types of bullying.
How do you think the people in each story would feel if the behavior
lasted for a week? What if it lasted a month? The entire school year?
