What You Do:
1. Gather all the materials.
2. Remove the label of the water bottle.
3. Fill the bottle with ¼ water.
4. Fill ½ of the bottle with cooking oil. The oil
floats and the water sinks to the bottom of
the jar under the oil and looks like little,
clear blobs.
5. Add 6 drops of food coloring; your choice
of color. The food coloring is water-based,
so it will also sink and color the water that is
now at the bottom of the flask.
6. Break an Alka-seltzer tablet into a few small
pieces, and drop them in the flask one at a
time.
7. Do not cover the tip of the bottle
during the process. It might explode.
8. Call your teacher to show your work.
9. Clean up your working area.
