STATE POLICIES IN LABOR
State policies in labor primarily concerns the well-being of workers as well as provide labor
standards for the purpose of improving employment rates, labor relations, and improving
quality of people’s lives in the Philippines.
This is a set of policies that provide legal rights and protection for both employers and
employees. It specifies the standards governing the process of hiring, granting of tenure, pay
scales, and termination of employees. It promotes full employment wherein all people who are
in search of work must be able to acquire a job with just and humane conditions of work.
Having equal work opportunities is also expressly recognized as a policy that prohibits
discrimination against employees or applicants based from their sex, religion, race, creed,
disability, and color. These policies also assure the right of workers to self-organization and
collective bargaining which allows them to join or assist a union that enables collective
bargaining and mutual protection. These policies are intended to secure the rights of all
workers. It is a way of monitoring employee-employer relationships allowing any issues from
both parties to be dealt with appropriately. It helps to align power imbalances so that no
employer can abuse their employees and both parties can discuss working conditions on an
equal footing.
