Nigerian Citizens Irony
Nigeria as a country is a land occupied by people, the land itself is not bad but the
people living in her may be bad. Thus, when I hear people speaking ill about the land
and expect good from the same land it baffles me and it is the greatest irony I have
always heard. The land is permanent but people come and go. The other day we
were discussing about Nigeria and how it can be good, I was the only positive person
there, the other categorically said that Nigeria can never be good. The question I
asked was why do we expect something good from what we have used our mouth to
curse?
Yes, we have bad leaders, we can speak against them, but not the land that we and
our children dwell. We must learn to separate the land from the people. We must
learn to speak good about the land. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth
speaks, thus, those speaking ill and expecting great things from the country should
try to examine themselves properly. Oh yes, I use to insult Nigeria until I discovered
that the land is different from the people.
Let us speak what we wish to see happen to our beloved country, the Bible says that
we pray for the peace of Jerusalem, Nigeria is our Jerusalem, for in her peace we
shall also have peace. Speak well of Nigeria, for in her greatness you shall also be
great. We all keep condemning the government for a problem that we are all part of.
You pay for prepaid meter, yet Eko Distribution Distribution Company will refuse to
give you the meter because they will not be able to get bribe. Those doing this are
part of the so-called masses. You will try to repair the road to your community and
the high chief will demand ridiculous amount from you, making the road to
dilapidate more and more.
During election it is the same jobless youths that will rig election for the same
oppressive politicians. You question a lecturer and be ready to spend extra year in
the higher institution. You sell a product create artificial scarcity and put it on the
government. You need a job and you lie about you age to get the job. You forged
result to get a job and destroy the system. All the aforementioned are from those
that criticised the government most. I must let you know that the government can
never be serious when her citizens are not serious. If we have put ourselves in order,
the government will sit up.
The government is by far less than 1% of the population, they can oppress the
masses because they have their consent through their behaviour and actions. One
thing that I have discovered about our people is that, the government will create a
window of investment like a company, hand it over to the people to manage and
within a year, the company is grounded by the same people that will insult the
government. Mind you, I am not supporting the wicked government of the day, what
I am saying in earnest is that the government will sit up if we at the grass root
demand accountability and that could be done if we are accountable to ourselves;if
we ourselves and lives in order.
