Comma Rule #1: A comma is needed between independent clauses when
joined by a coordinating conjunction (aka FANBOYS).
I went to the store and I went to Starbucks.
I work all day and sleep all night.
My brother loves video games but I don’t like them.

Comma Rule #2
Use a comma to separate coordinate adjectives. *Remember the trick
Practice:
They live in a beautiful new house.
We adopted a cute terrier puppy from the shelter.
My sister got a sparkly blue dress to wear to the dance.
Comma Rule # 3
Use a comma to set off an appositive.
Comma Rule #4:
Use a comma before a direct quotation (dialogue).
Billy Bob asked “When do I start my new job?”
“Don’t forget to clean your room” Mom said.
“We have to leave” Martha shouted “or we will miss the movie!”
Comma Rule #5
Use a comma between a city and state or a city and country.
