States of Matter: STEM and Careers
Solids liquids and gases are so important in
lots of industries.
Bricks that melt in the sun would be pretty
useless. An air freshener must release gas
particles if the smell is to fill the room. A jelly
that doesn't set to become solid just isn't jelly.
Many scientists test products, including foods to make sure they are fit for purpose. These
scientists can be researching new products, improving existing products, or making sure
that products are exactly as they should be.
STEM Challenge
You are going to work as a quality assurance scientist. Your
task is to investigate a customer’s complaint that bottle of
cola they bought was fizzier than normal. You need to
identify if there was a problem in the manufacturing process
that meant too much gas was added to the Cola. You need to
measure the amount of gas in the cola.
