Task 2. Read the text and answer the questions.
Have you ever dreamed of going to the moon? In July 1969, two American astronauts walked on
the moon. Their names were Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. If you visited the moon today, you would
still be able to see their footprints! They also left behind the American flag and the little car they drove,
called the Lunar Rover.
When the astronauts went to the moon, they needed to wear spacesuits and helmets to protect them,
because sometimes the moon is very cold and at other times it is very hot. The helmets help them breath
because there is no air on the moon.
Did you know that if you weighed 70 pounds on Earth, you would weigh only 11.5 pounds on the
moon? And if you went for a walk on the moon, you would bounce with each step. Some people say the
moon is made out of Swiss cheese because there are holes, called craters, on the moon. The craters were
caused by large rocks from space, called meteorites, hitting the moon. Here is another interesting thing
about the moon: Did you know that the moon is like a mirror? It reflects the light of the sun and sends it
to Earth and makes the moon look bright and beautiful! Don’t you agree we have a beautiful moon?
1. When did two American astronauts walked on the moon? ___________________________
2. What did they leave behind? ___________________________________________________

How did all the planets get there? How is it only our planet has life? Will we ever travel to other planets?
These are questions I often think about. I think our planet is the best. It looks so beautiful from space with
its mixture of blue and green. The other planets look too strange to me. Mercury is just a red, hot ball,
pretty much the same as Mars. Saturn looks like a real planet. Its rings give it an extra-special look. The
other planets don’t look that interesting. I don’t really know much about Venus, Neptune, Uranus and
Jupiter. When I was at school, we learnt that Pluto was a planet. But now it isn’t. Scientists have decided
there are now only eight planets in our solar system and not nine. I wonder why they dropped Pluto.

Reading.
Task. Read the article.
Holidays in Space
The World Tourism Organization says that space will soon be a popular place to go on holiday –
possibly by 2020. One Japanese company is getting ready. They are planning a space holiday centre. It
will look like a bicycle wheel and have a hotel for 100 people and a theme park. It will travel round the
Earth at a height of 300 km. The company hopes the centre will be ready in 2017. The company
chairman says that flying to the centre will probably be quicker than flying from Hong Kong to
Singapore. When they are on board of the centre, the tourists will take short trips to the Moon or go for
walks in space.
An American hotel group is also thinking of building a hotel, called the Lunar Hotel. This will be
on the Ьoon. Most of the hotel will be under the ground so it won’t become too hot or too cold. The
rooms will look just like they do on Earth. The guests will eat normal food for lunch. The cooks will just
push a button to mix dried food with water to become an instant meal!
