Experiment No: 2
Topic
Separating Mixtures
Aim
To determine the number of components in a sample of black ink
from a random pen.
Apparatus/Materials
Test tube, filter paper, dropper, black ink, alcohol, scissors
Method
Cut out a piece of filter paper measuring 10cm * 1cm.
Draw a line from one end of the filter paper measuring 1.5cm and
mark the center of the line.
Use a black ink pen to place a spot of ink on the center of the line
and allow it to dry.
Immerse one end of the filter paper into the alcohol without allowing
it to cover the spot.
Record observations and calculate the retention factor of each ink
seen.
