means of teaching;
ways of learning and education.
Methods as a science of foreign language
teaching
• Methodology refers to the range of teaching methods, procedures and strategies
adopted by a teacher in order to help learners to acquire
a language.
• Methodologies do not have to be influenced by applied linguistics but they are likely
to be sounder and more successful if they draw on insights into processes of
language development provided by applied linguistic research.
• It is also likely that the more teachers understand about the structure and
organisation of language, the more principled and systematic can be their choices
and design of language learning activities.
Methodology is
a study of methods …
• Methodology is
a study of methods which gives a basis ground to it, a science which deals
with supposition: what to do to teach a student a foreign language, while
methods deals with supposition: how to do that.
• It is proved that to achieve the goal which is teaching students foreign
language, in that case English, there is needed to satisfy some requirements
and obey some rules.
• Methodology is a science which studies aims, contents, means, principles, techniques
and methods of a system of instruction and education
• Methodology is a system of principles and ways of organization and construction
of theoretical and practical activity as well as teaching about this system
• The methodology determines the laws, principles, aims, content, methods,
techniques and means (media) of teaching. The actual teaching of a language may
differ in the analysis of what is to taught, in the planning of lessons, in the teaching
techniques used, in the type and amount of teaching done thought mechanical
means and finally, in the testing of what has been learned.
The process of scientific investigation in
Methods of teaching English.
• Steps in the process of scientific investigation in Methods of teaching
English:
first the teacher has to define a problem in teaching English and to set
out possible ways and techniques for overcoming them (he formulates a
hypothesis);
research in Methods usually begins with observation of what is
going on in the classroom;
experimental teaching or teaching which differs in
some respect from conventional teaching is the next step in Methods
research; experiment or specially arranged teaching with the purpose of solving
the problem is the last step in the investigation process. It is used for testing
hypothesis.
